Description

Confocal microscope image of a portion of a human 5-day embryo illustrating the trophoblastic shell. Interphase microtubules (green) are labeled with alpha/beta tubulin primary antibodies. FITC conjugated secondary antibody was then applied. Cell nuclei (red) were labeled with 7-aminoactinomycin D.

Technical Details

A confocal image stack containing 180 0.75 micrometer thick slices (136 micrometers in total) was obtained with a Zeiss LSM 510 confocal microscope with meta detector. The objective lens was a 40x oil Plan Apo NA 1.3. Shown is a projection of 10 slices representing a 7.5 micrometer thick region that includes the trophoblastic shell.
