Description

Lipid droplet contacts with nucleus and kinetoplast in a Leishmania amastigote inside golden hamster spleen cell. The image shows a transversal section of the cell. Below plasma membrane is possible to identify subpellicular microtubules. The lipid droplet is in contact with nuclear envelope and mitochondrial outer membrane. At the kinetoplast it is possible identify the mitochondrial DNA (kDNA) and mitochondrial outer and inner membranes. Golgi apparatus and endosomes also can be observed. Leishmania infantum amastigote form (MCAN/BR/89/BA262) observed in spleen section during experimental infection of Mesocricetus auratus. Tissue was fixed using karnovsky reagent, post-fixed with osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in ethanol and embedded in epoxy resin. Thin sections were viewed on a Zeiss 109 transmission electron microscope. Magnification 80000.
